| Rachel Ray Supports Terrorism Posted: Dunkin Donuts had to pull an ad featuring Rachel Ray because it appeared to some people that she was wearing a scarf that symbolizes support for terrorism. This means that some people were offended by it and actually believe that Rachel Ray supports terrorism. Yah people! Sure! And what better way to send a message than to use an online Dunkin Donuts ad! This is a situation where people need to use common sense and not get so offended, but it's more interesting to cause an uproar and get offended over something you know truly has no significance. Breathtaking photos from the lander can be found at www.nasa.gov, along with more information on the mission. Unfortunately, this lander will only be able to perform it's duties for 3 months.?? Unlike the roving landers that have been running around Mars for years now, even though they were only made to last for??a few months.?? The reason is because the poles on Mars do not get sunlight during the Winter months.?? This will prevent the lander from receiving power with the solar arrays and shortly after the sun disappears, it will loose power and be covered in ice. | ZiiTrend Posted: One of the most important things that people in various industries keep a close watch on in order to help predict the future are trends. They can be hard to distinguish, but if you dig a little deeper than usual, you're sure to see them. Of course, sometimes these trends are obvious, and when this is the case, it seems like everyone is ready to predict and provide solutions for the future. Either way, trends are important, and it's much easier to predict future trends and events when you work with others to define what's happening now and what the possibilities are for the future. ZiiTrend is a community that is based around these predictions. Users can submit new predictions and contribute their input to predictions that have already been made by others. In addition, the community can easily see the current percentages of the outcomes over a period of time, and links to news items can be displayed to help everyone stay informed about what's going on. It can be very interesting to discuss these events with others and then see how they turn out. How accurate are your predictions? Related Articles: |

| Move Objects In PowerPoint 2007 Posted: Working with objects in any Office application can be frustrating, even for seasoned users. For example, moving an object just a hair to the left can end up taking several minutes. It is not easy moving an object in a PowerPoint slide a very small distance using your mouse. The object usually ends up moving too far one way. Instead of using the mouse in such situations, you should try using the arrow keys on the keyboard. Select the object that you want to move. Press and hold the CTRL key while you press the arrow key based on the direction that you want to move the object. Each time you press an arrow key, the object will be moved 1/12 of an inch in the specified direction. Related Articles: |
| How to Speak Starbucks Posted: For those of you who are Starbucks addicts, you will have noticed that the barista's call out drinks in a certain order. This order is defined throughout the Starbuck's universe and remains constant in every store. Have you ever wondered how to order your drink like a pro? You'll notice that every cup has a series of boxes: - Decaf
- Shots
- Syrup
- Milk
- Custom
- Drink
The great thing about the process is that you read straight down the cup (with a few exceptions). So a grande latte with vanilla syrup and nonfat milk would read: grande vanilla nonfat latte. See how it rolls off of your tongue better? Let's try another. How about a tall decaf mocha with extra whipped cream. It would read: decaf tall extra whip mocha. The above example is one of the few exceptions to the 'law of Starbucks': decaf is always called first.?? Another nifty fact is that an Americano has an extra shot of espresso in it (grade gets 3, instead of the normal 2)! Stay tuned for future Starbucks secrets! | Create Vista Images Using Sysprep Part I Posted: There are many different methods to automate the installation of Vista. One of the most popular and efficient methods is referred to as disk duplication where a pre-configured operating system is cloned and copied onto another computer. This method is an ideal choice when you need to install Vista on a number of systems that all require an identical configuration. The System Preparation tool (Sysprep), included with Vista, can be used to clone a computer and automate the deployment of the operating system. One of the benefits of using disk duplication is that it simplifies the installation of Vista on multiple computers. It is a welcome alternative to manually installing the operating system on multiple computers and configuring identical settings. Instead, the operating system, any service packs, configuration settings and applications can be included in the image and copied to the target machines. The System Preparation Tool (Sysprep) can be used to create an initial disk image. What Sysprep does is prepare the system running Vista to be duplicated. Once the image is created, you must then use another utility, such as Imagex, to capture the image. Using a utility like Sysprep offers several advantages. Although some time must be spent preparing the image, it will obviously speed up future installations as well as reduce the amount of user interaction required. The general steps that must be completed when using disk duplication to deploy an operating system include: - Install the operating system on the reference computer.
- Configure the reference computer as required.
- Create the sysprep.xml file
- Run Sysprep.exe.
- Capture and apply an image.

| Top 5 Ways To Get More Bang For Your Buck On Video Games Posted: Gnomie Andrew Franklin writes: Hey Chris, Let's face it: video games can be a pretty expensive investment nowadays. Up to $60 a game, $300 a console, and not to mention peripherals and monthly subscriptions for online play if you have an Xbox 360. With those types of numbers, more than likely you're not going to be able to buy every video game that comes out. So how do you find games that you're going to get the most bang for your buck? - My first suggestion is find a genre that suits your style. Everybody has different tastes in what they like. First person shooters, MMORPGs, music games, simulations, driving games, and sandbox games -- there are many different genres out there. You're going have to find what interests you and look there first to find a game.
- Is the game play enjoyable? The most important thing about any game is the game play. Look for things such as easy controls (unlike Red Steel), minimal glitches (unlike Battlefield 2), good graphics, and finally balanced and enjoyable online game play (if the game is online). If you don't look for these things you may end up frustrated with your purchase.
- Don't always trust hype! Much of the time hype will be right, but not always. Take for example Assassin's Creed. I know that there are probably some people yelling at me right now, but I will explain further in my next topic why this game was particularly overhyped.
- Buy a game that has good replay value. If you're not going to buy a lot of video games, you're going to want to make sure that the games you do have are enjoyable even after you beat it. Now back to my example. Assassin's Creed is a fun game at first, but once you beat it, it begins to lose its luster due to its repetitive missions and also because it has no online multiplayer. So do your research and find a game that you can enjoy for a long time.
- Don't buy a game until you have done your research. Watching a two minute game play video doesn't always show you how much you're going to enjoy a video game. My best suggestion for research is to play a demo or test out a game before you buy it. If you can't find a demo, look for reviews whether they're online, on TV, or in a magazine. Any of these options are a lot better than blindly throwing away $60. So do your research and save your cash.
Keep in mind that you should look at more than one review when researching Don't just look at a reviewer's score; read the reasoning as to why the reviewer gave that score. Related Articles: |
| New Study Finds Most North Pacific Humpback Whale Populations Rebounding Posted: The number of humpback whales in the North Pacific Ocean has increased since international and federal protections were enacted in the 1960s and '70s, according to a new study funded primarily by NOAA and conducted by more than 400 whale researchers throughout the Pacific region. However, some isolated populations of humpbacks, especially those in the Western Pacific Ocean, have not recovered at the same rate and still suffer low numbers. The new research reveals that the overall population of humpbacks has rebounded to approximately 18,000 to 20,000 animals. The population of humpback whales in the North Pacific, at least half of whom migrate between Alaska and Hawaii, numbered less than 1,500 in 1966 when international whaling for this species was banned. In the 1970s, federal laws including the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act provided additional protection. "NOAA is proud to have played a key role in initiating and funding this study," said retired Navy Vice Adm. Conrad C. Lautenbacher, Ph.D., under secretary of commerce for oceans and atmosphere and NOAA administrator. "It is only through this type of international cooperation that we can gauge our success and measure what additional work needs to be accomplished to protect highly migratory marine mammals." The results of this new report come from SPLASH (Structure of Populations, Levels of Abundance and Status of Humpbacks), an international effort involving more than 50 organizations. Launched in 2004, the project determined whale migratory patterns and estimated population sizes by using a library of 18,000 photographs of whale flukes to identify 8,000 individual whales. Cascadia Research in Olympia, Wash., the central coordinator for the SPLASH project, matched photographs from six different feeding and breeding areas. By matching whale flukes photographed in their feeding areas with those photographed in the wintering areas, researchers were able to determine the patterns of individual whale movements, as well as estimate the sizes of different populations. In addition to whale fluke photographs, SPLASH researchers collected more than 6,000 biopsy samples for studies of genetics and pollutants, along with thousands of additional photographs to determine how levels of scarring from line entanglement and ship strikes vary among regions. The samples, which are yet to be analyzed, will provide valuable insights into the complex population structure and current threats to further recovery. | Smoking Is Addictive, But Quitting Is Contagious Posted: Over the last 30 years, the number of smokers in the U.S. has steadily decreased -- a tribute to the efforts of public-health workers everywhere. And while this fact is unarguable, less obvious are the social and cultural forces that lead an individual to kick the habit. In fact, when someone crumbles that last empty pack of their favorite unfiltered brand and vows to never buy another, he might not realize that he is less like the heroic individual grasping his own boot straps and more like a single bird whose sudden left turn is just one speck in the larger flock. These are the findings of a massive longitudinal study spanning 32 years: people quit smoking in droves. Through reconstructing the social network of 12,067 individuals, researchers from Harvard Medical School and the University of California, San Diego have discovered that smoking cessation occurs in network clusters and is hardly the isolated decision it might feel like to the individual quitter. "We've found that when you analyze large social networks, entire pockets of people who might not know each other all quit smoking at once," says Nicholas Christakis, a professor in Harvard Medical School's Department of Health Care Policy, who, along with U.C. San Diego researcher James Fowler, authored the study. "So if there's a change in the zeitgeist of this social network, like a cultural shift, a whole group of people who are connected but who might not know each other all quit together." The study, which was funded primarily by the National Institute on Aging, appears in the May 22 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. Over the last few years, Christakis, who is also a professor of sociology in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University, and Fowler have been analyzing data from the Framingham Heart Study (an ongoing cardiovascular study begun in 1948), recreating the social patterns contained within the study data to see how health correlates with an individual's social network. The researchers derived information from archived, handwritten administrative tracking sheets dating back to 1971. All family changes for each study participant, such as birth, marriage, death, and divorce, were recorded. In addition, participants had also listed contact information for their closest friends, as well as coworkers and neighbors. Coincidentally, many of these friends and coworkers were also study participants. Focusing on 5,124 individuals, Christakis and Fowler observed a total of 53,228 social, familial, and professional ties. Last year, they reported on how obesity spreads through social networks. Using the same data, they decided to analyze smoking cessation trends within that same population. The first and most striking finding was the discovery that, from the larger network perspective, people quit smoking as groups and not as individuals. "When you look at the entire network over this 30-year period, you see that the average size of each particular cluster of smokers remains roughly the same," says Fowler. "It's just that there are fewer and fewer of these clusters as time goes on." They were able to quantify the person-to-person effects of smoking cessation among married couples, siblings, friends, and coworkers. In addition, they also discovered "quitting cascades" that advanced from person-to-person-to-person. (See end of release for statistical chart.) Christakis illustrates this point by describing a small network containing three individual smokers, persons A, B, and C. The first person, A, is friends with B, and B is friends with C, but A and C do not know each other. If C quits smoking, A's chances of not smoking spike 30 percent, regardless of whether or not B smokes. The middle individual, it would appear, might act as a kind of "carrier" for a social norm. Education also seems to matter. We are more influenced by the quitting behavior of others if those people are highly educated. To add a further twist, we are also more influenced by others if we ourselves are more educated. Says Christakis, "We see by this that the educated are not only more influential, but they are also more easily influenced." And finally, Christakis and Fowler discovered that smokers are increasingly marginalized throughout social networks. "If you look back at 1971, smokers and non-smokers alike were at the centers of social networks," says Fowler. "For people running companies and having parties, smoking was irrelevant. But during the '80s and '90s we saw a dramatic shift of smokers to the periphery of the social network. Contrary to what we might have thought in high school, smoking has become a supremely bad strategy for getting popular." This marginalization of smokers appears to occur across all educational and economic demographics. According to the researchers, this is an additional concern. Social marginalization leads to poor health. Smoking then is not only bad for your physical health but for your social health as well. "What people need to understand is that because our lives are connected, our health is connected," says Christakis. "Policy makers have an understandable tendency to treat people as atomized individuals, and to anticipate the impact of their policies accordingly," says Duncan Watts, professor of sociology at Columbia University, who was not involved with this study. "What this study -- like the authors' previous study on obesity -- points out clearly, however, is that individuals do not behave as atoms, but as part of a network. Although simple to state, the consequences of that observation are profound, and will require us to fundamentally rethink our intuition about the world." "The culture of individualism is so strong that we sometimes forget how powerfully and silently social networks and those around us influence our health," said Richard Suzman, director of National Institute on Aging's Division of Behavioral and Social Research. "If decisions to quit cascade through social networks, then this study has provided public health campaigns a powerful new methodology with which to influence behaviors." Smoking Cessation, Ranked By Relationship: - When one spouse quits smoking, the other spouse's chances of continuing smoking decrease 67 percent.
- When a friend quits, a person's chances of continuing decrease by 36 percent.
- Among co-workers in small firms, 34 percent. (Data for larger firms was insignificant.)
- Among siblings, 25 percent.

| Weezer Jam Session Posted: Almost everyone wanted to be a rock star at some point. And an awful lot of us who lacked the guitar or vocal chops found ourselves playing drums. All drummer jokes aside, how would you like to jam along with a big time band? In today's featured game you're playing drums in a Weezer Jam Session. In this game you're keeping the beat for mega-band Weezer and you score points by how well you play. It should be a simple task, as you only have to play snare drum and clap your hands, but hitting the beats exactly is challenging even if you've got rhythm. If you are rhythm impaired, you can always try to follow along visually. All you have to do is play the "o" and "e" keys and the spacebar on cue. You get to try your hand at two Weezer songs, which mixes things up a little. Even if you're not playing this game for a high score, it's fun to jam along with the tunes. This game is a load of fun in a sort of drummer karaoke kinda way. And you can impress your friends and neighbors by saying that you played drums with Weezer. Related Articles: |
| Energy Crops Take A Roasting Posted: A process used to roast coffee beans could give Britain's biomass a power boost, increasing the energy content of some of the UK's leading energy crops by up to 20 per cent. The study, carried out by engineers from the University of Leeds, examined the combustion behaviour of crops grown specifically for energy creation when put through a mild thermal process called 'torrefaction' -- more usually associated with coffee production. Torrefaction is increasingly seen as a desirable treatment for biomass because it creates a solid product which is easier to store, transport and mill than raw biomass. The study examined the energy crops willow, canary grass and agricultural residue wheat straw to see what happened when they went through the torrefaction process and how they behaved at a range of temperatures when they were heated to create an energy-enhanced fuel. Results showed that the treated materials needed less time and energy to heat to burning point, and also that they offered increased energy yields upon burning. Willow emerged as having the most favourable properties, in that it retained more of its mass in the torrefaction process and also performed best in terms of its energy yield. As an example, willow was shown to have an 86 per cent energy yield, compared with 77 per cent for wheat straw and 78 per cent for reed canary grass. "Raw biomass takes up a lot of space and has a low energy density which makes it costly -- environmentally and economically -- to transport. Plus you need more of it than say, coal, to produce energy efficiently," says Professor Jenny Jones who worked on this study with PhD student Toby Bridgeman. "Torrefaction is not currently used in the UK in either the agricultural or the energy sectors," says Bridgeman. "But our paper shows that it has a lot of benefits, besides those to do with fuel handling, so we feel it's definitely something we'd like to explore further." This research was supported by the Supergen Bioenergy Consortium, an initiative created by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council as part of its commitment to funding research which will help the UK reach EU targets for the reduction of CO2 emissions and increased use of renewable energy. This research is published in the current issue of FUEL, in a paper entitled Torrefaction of reed canary grass, wheat straw and willow to enhance solid fuel qualities and combustion properties. | Pros and cons of windows. The idea operating system? Posted: I decided I'd list off the pros and cons of windows in my opinion. First off if you're a big gamer windows is definately for you. After all I think the pc is the king of gaming in general. Think about it You can have all your games on one machine. When you're installing any program in general most of the time it doesn't show you what it's actually doing to your computer. That kind of annoys me. They release updates all the time and never tell you what they are for. Some of them even result in programs not working after the install. Plus having to reboot after each and every update. Another thing windows comes with a pretty hefty price tag. Also there is one thing I don't like about the new operating system "vista" it seems as if you you have to have double the amount of ram as you would for windows. For instance in windows xp for a game they ask you to have 1 gig, in vista they ask to have 2gigs . If you only go on the computer to use basic programs and surf the internet. I reccomend switching to a free open source distro of Linux such as Ubuntu.?? Think about it, no viruses, no spyware, no malware. You don't even have to install the operating system itself. Also unlike windows it doesn't take 2 hours to install. Ubuntu is a Live cd meaning you can run straight off the cd. But installing something in linux can sometimes be a pain with the terminal in all. You can run some windows programs by using something called wine. Or you can run windows as a virtual machine. There are many things you could do. You could dual boot the two or even have linux as a virtual machine. Also there is a new version of linux out. You can check it out at the video below for the many features it has. I believe this one is a live cd as well. Check it out. As always comments are welcome as well as thoughts and suggestion I always read them. Have a nice day, hope this helps, it could also possibly save you money. | Firefox 3 - Ready To Roll? Posted: Still having mixed feelings about the release of Firefox 3 as it currently has some serious bugs on Linux, due to the the system killing fsync bug. Allegedly, it is fixed, but I have yet to see evidence of it. Despite that frustration and the fact that 90% of the add-ons I use are now useless, I am sure it will be a great release! Other things that keep driving me back to older versions of Firefox include the way it auto-completes URLs. While I am sure the main release will surely have a way to turn this "suggestive" url feature off, for the time being, it has taken some getting used to. Perceived memory improvements have been generally invisible to me but perhaps they are there as I have not spent a ton of time watching my system resources for changes. The browser does seem a bit more stable, with the exception of me working with the Flash 10 beta/alpha/whatever. That is certainly not perfect, but Linux users, if Flash 9 is making your CPU hit the roof, try this beta - it does help a great deal. What is Firefox 3 really giving us? Honstly in the end, not a whole heck of a lot over version 2 thus far. To be totally fair, we are still in release candidate phase. But outside of possible phishing protection and maybe improved performance, I am just not feeling the new url box at all.?? Am I being unreasonable? Related Articles: |
| Circuit city lost a customer Posted: I'm not sure what was up with circuit citys customer service desk. I called five times hoping to see if they had a product in stock before hand. I always hate going to stores looking for something that's not there. They recently have had an Antec External hard drive enclosure for sale. Now Best Buy in my area was even closer than Circuit City plus they were very helpful and the match prices of local competitors. Although the customer service desk worker had no idea what I was talking about. The product itself is pretty nice. Original price 72.99 dropped down to 39.99. The one thing I didn't like was the fact that one of the employees were attempting to get more money out of me. They said they could partition the drive for 29.99. Now 30.00 for them to do something that is beyond simple. If you would like to partition your drive. Let's say you don't know how. First option in my mind would be a google search. Then maybe do a youtube search. If all else fails you could call the manufacturer. Although I think partitioning drives is all the same. I am a windows user though. Not a mac user. It just kind of makes me mad that they were attempting to get money out of me for something so simple. I mean I just bought the enclosure. I had the hard drive in hand and all I asked was if they could partition it for me. To save me some time. Instead I saved 30.00, Well actually 60.00 if you think about it. They were wanting to charge me 30.00 to partition it and I saved 30 from not buying the enlosure at the price they were selling it for. Anyways so far I have had no problems with the enclosure itself. I made sure to read all the reviews before buying the actual product. It's a sata 3.5" enclosure that comes with usb support and it is actively cooled. I notice that other hard drive enclosures come with fans the size of quarters. But this product is guaranteed to keep your hard drive 15 degrees below room temperature. So it's kind of a good thing for me. Installing the hard drive itself was pretty easy. The next thing I think I'm going to buy is ram. So I will be shopping around for the next few weeks for the best deal. I'll update you when I find it. You can find the deal on the sata hard drive enclosure here and they also offer free shipping and handling. Also this article here states how to partition as well as format a drive and a few other things. Have a look. I reccomend this product to anyone who has a low budget. Although it is only on sale for a limited time. If you do happen to goto Best Buy. Don't let them gouge you just to partition the drive. Related Articles: |

So being the geek that i am, i said "NO".?? So i went home and reinstalled Vista.?? It was fine for the first 3 days...then my speakers and 1 headphone jack stopped. Seven days later, i went back and got a replacment. So here i am on my NEWLY replaced computer, and guess what... i still get these WSoD's.?? I am fed up with Vista.?? I need this fixed...NOW Specs: Dell Inspiron 1420, 2GB Ram, 250GB harddrive, Vista home Premium. NOTE: i have talked to Dell, and Bestbuy. If someone can help me, e-mail me: bryangarcia831@gmail.com?? Microsoft..if you see this.. contact me A.S.A.P Related Articles: |
